EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS TO LIVE OUT GOD’S PLAN FOR THEIR LIVES!

Sundays

We are meeting at our newly renovated facility on 120 W Washington in Zeeland, MI 49464
Come visit us, service starts at 11:00 AM

It is our hope that you can sense our genuine love for God and others, our pursuit to know Him, and our passion to multiply authentic followers of Jesus Christ.
We would be honored with your presence during our worship service. It is our hope and prayer that you will discover how easy it is to be a part of this growing fellowship of believers.

Who We Are

We see ourselves as a fellowship of believers redeemed at great cost with the blood of our precious Savior Jesus Christ. We are a diverse collection of God’s people – young and old, married and single, parent and grandparent, newborn through retirement, each one precious and uniquely designed by their Creator to fulfill His divine purpose in this generation.

History

Generations was birthed through a small group of believers who had a vision to keep things simple, to enable each other to focus our time toward the ministry and the people God has placed within each member’s sphere of influence. We intended that our time together in weekly worship would be inter-generational, honoring the unity and opportunities that can come when young and old worship together. As a result, this vision continues to guide the decisions we make regarding our ministry together and how we allocate our time and resources. We began worshiping in a home in April of 2004. In order to accommodate the number of believers God was bringing together, we moved to Allendale in the Fall of 2005 where we met thru July 2010 in the Allendale High School. We then met at the Mocha-n-Music in Hudsonville, Mi.

We are now meeting at our new location, 120 W Washington Ave, Zeeland, MI 49464.

We hope to never lose sight of the fact that this ministry is about the fellowship of believers, not the location, size or ownership of the building we meet in.

What Really Matters

"These Truths are Immovable. They are Life’s Landmarks. Ever Timeless. Life’s Foundations. With Jesus as our Cornerstone."

Worship of God

We hold with high value the corporate worship of God and all His attributes, and purposefully strive to make a distinction between authentic worship and mere entertainment . (1 Chron. 16:29; Ps. 95:6 Ps. 100; Ps. 22:22; Ps. 35:18 and Amos 5:21-24)

Mentoring Believers

We hold with high value the process of encouraging believers to mature in their growth as followers of Christ in such a way that it changes the character of their daily life . (Heb. 10:24-25; Heb. 3:13; Heb. 13:20-21; Phil. 1:27, Titus 2:2-7, Rom. 12:2, Eph. 4:14-16, and Col. 3:16)

Building the Family

We hold with high value the responsibility given to the leadership of each household to instruct, guide, and lead their families in worship and in the knowledge of the Word of God. We believe that the Church and the Family are institutions ordained by God and should compliment each other rather than compete with each other . (Deut.6:4-9; 1 Tim. 3:4; Col. 3:18-21 and Eph. 2:19-22)

Expository Preaching

We hold with high value the preaching and application of the entire Word of God because of its relevance to our everyday lives. (2 Tim. 4:2; Acts 20:27 and Eph. 2:20)

Inspiration and Inerrancy of Scripture

We hold with high value the belief and conviction that the scripture is inerrant in its original languages and that its careful translation into our own language has preserved that inerrant quality. (2 Pet. 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; John 10:34-35; John 14:26; John 17:14 & 17; Ps. 119:89, 142, 151 & 160; Rev. 21:5; Rev. 22-6; 1 Cor. 2:13; 1 Cor 14:37; 1 Thess. 2:13 and Eph. 2:20)

Prayer

We hold with high value the act of prayer for the purpose of worship, intercession, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayer is a high honor, our means of communication with our Father, and is received through the intercessory work of the Holy Spirit and the advocacy of His Son, Jesus Christ. (1 Tim. 2:1-2; Rom. 8:26-27; 1 John 2:1-2 and 1 Thess5:17)

Missions – Church Planting

We hold with high value the model of missions taught in the New Testament. We are commanded to spread the Gospel first to “Jerusalem, then to Judea, Samaria and then the uttermost parts of the earth.” We believe we are commanded to spread the Gospel to our own families, to our community, our country and ultimately the world. As part of our mission outreach, we believe that new churches should be planted, whether here or abroad. (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark. 16:15 and Acts 1:8)

Culturally Relevant

We hold with high value the belief that the Word of God is relevant to all generations. Therefore, we believe that the ministry of the Church includes equipping families and individuals to understand the Word of God and apply it to their everyday lives in a way that is relevant, meaningful, and meets the challenges of living in the world. (Rom. 12:1-2, John 17:15-19, and 1 Peter 2:11-17)

Serving

We hold with high value the commission to serve our Lord with all that we are, all that we have, and all that we do for the glory of God. We believe that Scripture teaches us, by the example of Jesus Christ and His disciples, that we are to go out into the community to serve by acts of kindness, and thus leave everywhere the fragrance and testimony of Christ. (Gal. 5:13; Gal. 6:9-10; 1 Pet. 2:16; 1 Pet 4:10-11; Matt. 24:45-47; Rom. 12:1; Rom. 15:1-3; Rom. 12:9-13; Mark 10:42-45, John 13:1-17, 2 Cor. 2:14-16, and Phil. 2:5-8)

Purpose Statement

The Purpose of the ministry at Generations is to glorify God as a fellowship of believers reflecting the New Testament roots of the church community found in Acts 2: 42-47. To that end, we are striving to be a Christ-centered, family-integrated church; a community where every member, being precious and uniquely designed by God, uses his or her gifts to help the body be unified in God’s divine purpose. With this in mind, we seek to apply the unchanging truths found in God’s Word to our everyday lives in such a way that it changes how we live and interact with individuals in our family, workplace and community.

Vision Statement

Empowering individuals to live out God’s plan for their life!

What We Believe

bible

Authority & Inerrancy of Scripture
We are convinced the Bible is “God breathed, without error, and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV)

The Trinity
We are convinced the Bible teaches that there is one God who manifests Himself in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and these three are one who are eternally self-existent (1John 5:7 NKJV 2 Cor. 13:14)

Man
We are convinced the Bible teaches that “God created the Heavens and the earth and everything that is in them…” and said, “Behold it is very good.” (Gen 1:1,31) “He created man after His own image and breathed into him the breath of life and man became a living soul” and is distinct from all other creation possessing both body and soul. (Gen 2:7; Matt 10:28)

Redemption
We are convinced the Bible teaches that man disobeyed God and sinned when eating of the forbidden fruit. He was then condemned to death and hell both body and soul “without hope and without God in this world.” (Gen 2:17-3:24; Eph 2:12) We are further convinced that according to the Bible God extended forgiveness through the shedding of the blood of animals, which were “a shadow of things to come.” In other words, the act of shedding of blood pointed to Christ “The Lamb of God (who shed His blood once and for all) taking away the sin of the world.” Therefore, “Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 1:29; 3:16; Hebrews 8:1-6; 9:22; 10:1-10; 1 John 2:1-3)

Jesus Christ
We are convinced the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the “Word made flesh.” (John 1:1-18) He is fully God and fully man. He is the only Savior who rose from the dead and proclaimed himself, “I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25; Acts 4:12; Col. 2:9; Hebrews 1:1-13; 1 John 5:1)

Things to Come
We are convinced the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is gathering His bride called “The Church” to present her to Himself “without spot or wrinkle” (Eph. 5:27; Rev. 21:2); That Jesus Christ will appear in the air, before the tribulation (referred to as “the day of wrath”) to catch away His bride and bring them to heaven for the marriage supper of the Lamb. (1 Thess. 1:10: 4:17: Rev. 6:17; 19:7-9; 21:2) Returning seven years later to inaugurate His Millennial reign. (Rev. 20:6)

Baptism
We are convinced the Bible teaches that every believer in the church of Acts, upon acknowledgment of Christ as Savior, was baptized. The baptism of Jesus and the Ethiopian Eunuch are examples. We are further convinced that baptism according to the New Testament is to be experienced by believers in the form of immersion; that baptism is distinct from salvation, and symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ on behalf of the believer. It has no merit towards salvation. We believe it is required for membership in the local body, since it is clearly taught in the Bible, it is necessary as a mark of a maturing believer holding a leadership role in the church. (Matt. 3: 13-17: Mark 9:38-41; Acts 8:26-39 NKJV)

Ordinances of the Church
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local Church, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. (Acts 8:26-40; Rom. 6:3-6; Gal.2:20; 1Cor.11: 17-34
